The Editor’s Wife: One Woman’s Political Climb to the Top (2005)

Synopsis for The Editor’s Wife

Born on the wrong side of the tracks on Chicago’s Southwest Side, Frances Marian (Dragolovich) Colgan is driven to succeed. With her crafty father-in-law for a teacher, F.M. uses her wiles and looks to climb to the ropes of the politics in post-World War II Illinois.

Author Nowlan weaves a tapestry as rich and colorful as F.M. herself. The author includes an interracial affair in a small town in the 1950s, alliances with lieutenants in the Chicago Mob, infidelities to a loving husband, and more.

The Editor’s Wife draws upon real people, events, and social change from World War II through the tumultuous Vietnam Era to tell the story of a generation that lost its innocence in the pursuit of something more, whatever that proved to be.
